Introducing: the Good Data Assembly

We are delighted to share the launch of an important joint initiative that has been cooking behind the scenes for several months now: the Good Data Assembly!

Core to our mission within GDI is not only offering young leaders around the world the platform and upskilling opportunities to find their voice and a seat at the table, but to also create opportunities for discussions, debates, and real world impact around critical issues within the data economy.

A New Joint Impact Initiative

Following this, select GDI members have been working together with the Global Shapers’ Cambridge Hub to develop a virtual iteration of a classic Citizens’ Assembly. This new format is being tested as a way to broaden access, both geographically and among generations, to debates and knowledge around important issues within this arena.

We are excited to share that two GDA events have been scheduled for 2022:

What is a Citizens’ Assembly?

In its most basic form, a Citizens’ Assembly is a forum for a representative sample of citizens to come together to participate in open dialogue on a given issue, often one on a societal scale. This will often involve coming to a conclusion on a specific question, providing a set of recommendations, or prioritising a list of potential actions.

While the exact purpose and nature of a Citzen’s Assembly varies in practice, some similar recent examples include the Citizens Assembly on Brexit, Citizens’ Assemblies in Ireland on issues relating to abortion, population aging, and climate change. Given the scope of our work here at GDI, upcoming Good Data Assembly events will focus exclusively on issues within the data economy.

More information on these events is available here.
